- OVERVIEW:
-
- MUSIC1 is an interactive musical education progam. It will help you
- learn to read and identify musical notes. This program requires a
- graphics card and monitor capable of screen mode 2 (CGA, EGA, ect...).
- Some notes will not play on the computer speaker, they are out of
- the "tolerable" range of the speaker.
-
- The shareware/demo version of the program is limited. The notes in
- the octaves directly above and below middle "C" are functional all other
- notes are turned off. To receive a complete version of MUSIC1 you must
- register the software. To register send the registration form and the

- MIDI USERS:
-
- MUSIC1 is MIDI compatable! If you have a MPU-401 or compatable the
- program will detect it and use Channel 1 for playback and input.
- Anytime a note is needed for entry you may play it on your Synthesizer
- keyboard (computer keyboard entry is still functional). Set your Synth.
- to OMNI ON, LOCAL OFF. A piano type sound is recommened. Range is limited
- by your Synth. To force the computer speaker and disable the MIDI see
- below.

- COMMAND LINE OPTIONS:
-
- There are two command line options. They are /S and /K.
-
- /S Disables the computer speaker. No sound will be produced.
- /K For MIDI users - Forces non-MIDI operation.
-
- These options may be used separatly or together. When only using the
- /K option you must proceed it with a "/" .
-
- EXAMPLES:
- MUSIC1 /S Turns off the sound.
- MUSIC1 / /K Disables MIDI operation.
- MUSIC1 /S /K Disables MIDI operation and turns the sound off.

- PROGRAM OPERATION:

- GENERAL:
- MUSIC1 is a menu driven program. Pressing [ESC] at any time will back
- you up one screen. When in the main menu, (grand piano) [ESC] will
- end the program.

- MAIN MENU: (GRAND PIANO)

- [ESC] Ends the program.
- [ENTER] To select the highlighted option.
- Any other key Moves the cursor.

- LEARN MENU:

- You can choose one of three ways to indentify a note, the program
- will then display the others.

- [ESC] Returns to Main Menu.
- [ENTER] To select the highlighted option.
- Any other key Moves the Cursor.

- OPTION 1 KEYBOARD INPUT:

- Pick a note by moving the cursor on the piano keyboard. Select the
- note by pressing [ENTER]. The name and location on the staff of the
- note will be displayed, to continue pick another note. MIDI users
- may use their Synth. Keyboard for input by playing the desired note.

- [ESC] Returns to Learn Menu.
- [ENTER] To select the note under the cursor.
- [Up Arrow] Moves cursor up a half step.
- [Dwn. Arrow] Moves cursor down a half step.

- [Right Arrow] Moves cursor down a whole step.
- [Pg. Down] Moves cursor down an octave.
- [Pg. Up] Moves cursor up an octave.

- OPTION 2 NOTE NAME:
- ===================
- Using the arrow keys, move the cursor to the desired note name,
- press [ENTER], and the first position of the note will be shown on
- the piano keyboard and on the staff. By pressing any key the note
- will be displayed an octave higher until the note is out of range.

- [ESC] Return to Learn Menu.
- [ENTER] To select the highlighted note name.
- Arrow keys Moves the cursor in the direction of the
- arrow.

- OPTION 3 LOCATION ON STAFF:

- Using the arrow keys, display the desired note on the staff, press
- [ENTER], the note name and its location on the piano keyboard will
- be displayed. Display another note on the staff to continue.

- [ESC] Return to Learn Menu.
- [ENTER] To select the note on the staff.
- [Up Arrow] Moves note up a half step.

- QUIZ MENU:

- The computer will quiz you on note names, their locations on the staff
- and the piano keyboard, a score will be kept. Correctly naming the
- note is worth 1 point and correctly displaying the note on the piano
- keyboard or the staff is worth 2 points. The score is the precentage of
- correct answers.

- [ESC] Returns to the Main Menu.
- [ENTER] Selects the highlighted option.
- Any other key Moves the cursor.

- OPTION 1 KEYBOARD:

- A note will be displayed on the piano keyboard. First select
- the proper name for the note, then place the note on the staff. The
- correct location and name will be displayed if you incorrectly place
- the note on the staff. The Score is updated until the [ESC] key is
- pressed.

- [ESC] Returns to the Quiz Menu.
- [ENTER] Selects the Note Name or current location
- on the Staff.

- Page Up - These Keys function the same way as in
- Page Down / Learn screens. (step up, step down, cursor
- movement ect.)

- OPTION 2 STAFF:

- A note will be diplayed on the Staff. First name the note, then place
- the note on the Piano Keyboard. Midi users have the option of playing
- the correct note on their Synth. Keyboard. The correct note name and
- location on the piano keyboard will be displayed if the note is
- incorrectly placed on the piano keyboard. The Score will be updated,
- this will continue until you press [ESC].
